Welcoming refugees to Lambeth

Dear Holy Spirit friends,

http://southlondonwelcome.org/lambeth/
It's wonderful how much we've already done with welcoming refugee families locally!  It's super exciting.  And I'm interested to see how Ruth gets along with taking millions of kids around Central London on Tuesday... .

There are 3 more refugee families arriving in Lambeth in the next two weeks.  One of the houses a family is moving into is completely unfurnished.  Janet (local rabbi and refugee welcomer extraordinaire!) has some stuff for the house already donated, but the house doesn't have any beds!  And - as I'd said to some of you after church - if would be great if we could help out.

At the moment, donating specifically to this is a two-step process

 1.  Go to http://southlondonwelcome.org/lambeth/ and click through to get involved --> donate --> one off donation (this will take you to the main Citizens UK webpage donations page).

2. Once you have donated to Citizens UK online please EMAIL james.asfa@citizensuk.org and tell him that to earmark the donation for Lambeth refugees.

*** If you don't email James your money will still be used for an excellent cause... but it won't help buy beds for our refugees!! ***

A quick look at Ikea website seems to suggest it's about £100 for a bed frame and £100 for a mattress for double bed, and 2 x £45 for two singe bed frame and 2 x £40 for two single mattresses. So it would be £380 to get all the beds needed.   It would be really great if Holy Spirit could altogether get this sort of ballpark money raised?

The family also needs some lounge furniture, but I think it's a bit more likely someone in the network would know someone who might donate a sofa.  Obviously, there's no point in spending money on things that we might be able to get for free, but I think beds are hard to come by.

We don't have to coordinate with each other, and if we together donate more money than needed for beds (or we get a bed donated and save money that way) they money will all be used for something else for Lambeth refugees. For example, perhaps subside a few days holiday or day trip for families over the summer.

If you have something to donate in kind please email Rabbi Janet on janetdarley@blueyonder.co.uk to coordinate drop-off.

Thanks all!
