Message to our parishioners and neighbours

Dear beloved friends and neighbours,

On Monday 23rd March 2020, as well as the Archbishops of Canterbury and York having previously suspended all public worship services, the Bishop of Southwark has now officially closed all church buildings. Therefore, we are no longer able to host private prayer on weekday mornings or quiet prayer and reflection on Sundays.

The Church of the Holy Spirit remains alive as we continue our worship to God and care for one another - however, our church building and the contact centre will be closed. We would like to maintain our community worship albeit virtually rather than in person. So, there will be a weekly post on the website under the new blue tab 'Virtual Church' which will include a sermon, readings and prayers pertaining to that week. It will also be available as a PDF for downloading and printing. We are also going to post a video recording of Mother Ruth delivering the sermon for that week.

Sunday and daily services will be available on Zoom. Monday to Friday at 1pm, on Sunday at 10:30, and on Wednesday at 9pm there is a service of meditation. Check the newsletter to get the links.

You can submit a prayer request via the website where you will be prayed for at a specific time of day.

Following the Prime Minister’s speech yesterday evening, we plead with you to stay in your homes and only go out if it is essential. With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in London, we must continue to distance ourselves from each other to prevent transmission of the virus and save lives. This is not just about looking after ourselves as individuals but the community as a whole. Protecting the elderly, vulnerable and immune compromised is essential.

For now, the parish office will be closed and as a result the office telephone will not be staffed. The best way to get in contact is by emailing office@holyspirit-clapham.org.uk.  Lilly is working from home and will be reading and answering emails daily.

We want to ensure everyone stays connected so we have created a CHS Whatsapp group, if you would like to be added to that, please let Lilly know by emailing your contact details to office@holyspirit-clapham.org.uk. We can use it to keep each other informed about who needs help in our community. Please do get in touch if you or anyone you know needs assistance during these unprecedented times. Similarly, if you or someone you know would like a phone call, be it for wellbeing or spiritual matters, please email your phone number to office@holyspirit-clapham.org.uk or wardens@holyspirit-clapham.org.uk and we will arrange a phone call appointment.

We look forward to seeing you soon but in the meantime be kind to each other and stay safe.

God Bless you all.

With love,

All of us at Church of the Holy Spirit.
