The Abbeville Fete - the humongous community fair with its heart in the church - has a great new website. Have a look

This year, a new charity - Home Start Lambeth - will be supported by the Abbeville Fete. Click here for all the charities supported this year.

Home-Start Lambeth has been helping vulnerable and marginalised families with young children in Lambeth since 1998. Their purpose is to intervene decisively to bring about long-term change in children's futures, breaking the cycles of deprivation and marginalisation that leads to so many children inheriting the disadvantages of their parents. More specifically, the charity is seeking to secure funding to establish a presence on the Clapham Park Estate whereby they hope to create Parent Drop-in Centres to offer immediate advise as well as long-term access to the charity's services where needed. I attach a brief introduction to the work of Home-Start Lambeth and a copy of their latest audited accounts.

Steve Wall and Simon Kellaway of the Abbeville Fete Committee visited the charity in the spring of 2015 and found the board, staff and volunteers to be enthusiastic, dedicated, realistic and in many cases, with the necessary direct, appropriate professional experience to work with vulnerable people. Home-Start employs 6 staff but relies heavily on many well-trained and experienced volunteers to deliver its services. Total income for the charity in 2015 was £165,000, the majority of which was derived from charitable trusts, donations and fund-raising. Total expenditure over the same period was £158,000. Steve and Simon feel strongly that this is a charity that meets our key criteria for support: local, predominantly comprised of volunteers, addressing a desperate need in our local community and working hard to generate additional funds to support their worthwhile endeavours.

Their recommendation was approved by the PCC on 14 March 2016.                                           .
