Truly Scrumptious ... Abbeville Fete 2014

Singers and stalls, carousels and cakes, pimm’s and pooches, music and mayhem, auctions and artists, strawberries and shopping, BBQ, bargains, books and beer, Waiters racing, children singing, jugglers throwing ... PHEW! WHAT A DAY!

Thanks to the BUCKET LOADS of supporters without whom the Fete simply couldn't have happened- see here for the full list.

A BIG shout out to all the stall holders and local businesses for all of their hard work, optimism and friendliness: if you’d like more info, they are all listed here

Giving the most to the least

The Abbeville Fete is a wonderful celebration of our community and the fabulous people who keep it alive: and all to raise money and generate support for the local charities who work so hard to care for those in need on our doorstep.

The place to see and be seen...

There were representatives from ALL KINDS of community groups at the Fete this year: Guides, Lambeth Academy, St Mary’s Primary School, Bonneville Primary School, the South London Choir... Not to mention all of the local businesses who made such enormous contributions.

Not only did the borough commander of the Metropolitan Police pop in to say hello but CHUKA UMANNA MP was also enjoying the delights of the Fete, thrilled at the community spirit.

What’s all the fuss about?

There is always something for EVERYONE at the Abbeville Fete.

This year the KIDS ZONE included: a scavenger hunt, fancy dress parade, tombola, treasure map, splatting rats, beating buzzers, bungee run, tattoo parlour and the chance to have a go in a real fire engine and police car!

There was plenty of entertainment on offer with a line-up that would beat Glastonbury HANDS DOWN: Primary school and local community choirs, local solo artists, a STEEL BAND, Dog show and pet competition. And then the moment everyone was waiting for: The waiters’ and shopkeepers’ race. Not since London 2012 has there been such FIERCE competition...

As well as the bar selling all the drinks you could wish for, there was also a BBQ going all afternoon (making SUCH YUMMY burgers) and a selection of tea and cakes on offer inside CHS.

The silent auction and the raffle offered the chance to win some AMAZING PRIZES: from two cinema tickets, Cook vouchers and Starbucks goodies to luxury Caribbean holidays, Skiing weekends and a week in a Chateau in the South of France

What’s the story?

The Abbeville Fete is in its 18th year, and is put on by volunteers OF the community FOR the community. All money raised goes to worthwhile local charities.

Most of the surplus funds from the Fete are allocated among our chosen five main charities, all doing an important job in the community.

The five main charities we support are:

Local community projects include CHS Film Club, Clapham Guides and local schools.

In 2013, we were privileged to distribute  £19,700 to the above charities. Thank you all for your generosity and continued support, both of the Fete and of these worthwhile causes.
