Welcome to Andrei

We are delighted to be welcoming Andrei Lebed to CHS. He is officially appointed from 1 September (although some of you may have had a glimpse of him on 28 August) as organist and director of music.

Andrei has enjoyed a rich and diverse musical career as an organist, choral conductor and pianist to date. He learnt the organ at University College School while playing regular services in West Hampstead, Andrei went on to read Music at Peterhouse, Cambridge and was organ scholar there. While at Cambridge, Andrei much time conducting the Peterhouse choir, during which time they were welcomed to lots of venues, including Westminster Abbey, Notre Dame in Paris, and St George's, Windsor.

Having graduated from Cambridge and started with Deloitte's as a management consultant, Andrei has been a freelance organist, deputising in churches across London, as well as giving music lessons.

Andrei is looking forward to the role. He said "I was humbled to be offered this opportunity at the Church the Holy Spirit. From what I have seen so far there is a strong musical community within and around the church. Seeing the church being much used by the wider community is a testament to the hard work and openness of the church. I have every intention of doing my part to support and strengthen these links, and look to build new relationships where they do not currently exist. I am excited to get to know every member of the church community and in particular hear your thoughts on the role of music in our worship."

In his spare time Andrei still enjoys rowing (though increasingly in the social rather than competitive side of the sport), and taking on new challenges. He is a local to the Church of the Holy Spirit, living directly across the Common on Marney Road.
