We are delighted that Andrew Chevis is our new Treasurer from 2015. He was appointed recently by the PCC (the church's governing body).

Ruth put a few questions to Andrew so as to introduce him to us:

How long have you lived in Clapham?      I’ve lived in Clapham since 1995.

Tell us a bit about your lovely family     I’m married to Lena and we have four children: Ruby 18, Louis 14, Theo 12 and Sasha 7.

What is your favourite local eatery?     Favourite local eatery is French bistro Gastro in Venn Street opposite the cinema.  I love sitting outside next to the olive trees, speaking French to the staff and watching Clapham walk by.

What first brought you to CHS?     I first came to CHS when I lived in Narbonne Avenue and Marcus Hope was my neighbour. My marriage to Lena was blessed at the church and Sasha was baptised there.

What do you like best about CHS? It’s a diverse church with a lively congregation led by a fabulous vicar.

Favourite hymn?     My favourite hymn ‘Eternal Father, Strong to Save’ is a maritime hymn I often sang when I was a Naval Officer in my early 20s.

How do you like to relax and wind down?     To relax I swim with my daughter, play chess with my younger son and watch ‘Breaking Bad’ with my older son. I escape from them at least twice a year, usually sailing with old friends.

Do you cook? What’s your piece de resistance?     I love food and enjoy cooking the classics.  I excel at Roasts (who doesn’t ?) and occasionally turn out a Lobster Thermidor or a Beef Wellington.

What inspired you to take on the Treasurer role (for which we are extremely grateful )     I’ve helped out with Sunday School for a few years at CHS and when the Treasurer role came up I thought it was a chance to step up and play a fuller part in the life of the church.  I’m supported by a wonderful team – Nick, Peta, Lottie, Lynn, Terry, Angie, Jo, Frances – so hopefully between us we can keep the finances on an even keel.  Something I rarely achieve on the water.
